Never Never Land at Glacier High

By Beacon Staff

When I first saw Peter Pan as a child (I think I was about 4 years old), there were two things that struck me: People can sprinkle sparkles on themselves, think happy thoughts and fly; and dogs are expected to nanny said sparkly, happy humans.

(Admit it – even if the giant nanny dog didn’t strike you as odd, the idea of flying around instead of walking everywhere captured your imagination for at least a brief moment. How fun would that be? I imagine it would be something akin to swimming, but obviously more rewarding and way cooler.)

The Wolfpack Theatre Company at Glacier High School will begin their 2010 season with this enchanting story of perpetual youth on Jan. 11 and 12. “Peter Pan” will be complete with a 15-foot metal slide for the Lost Boys and a huge, 30-foot pirate ship for the infamous Capt. Hook and his pirate ilk.

Here’s a rundown from the theatre company:

“‘Peter Pan’ is all about recalling and creating a childhood. The story’s purpose is to have fun, yet still retain a message to each and every person in the audience,” said Glacier senior Quinn Maroney who is directing the show. “I hope the audience leaves the theatre filled with laughter, love and memories from long ago.”

This production in the Wolfpack Theatre is produced by the Acting 4 class. As part of the Acting 4 experience this production is produced completely by GHS students. From tryouts to the final curtain call these students experience all aspects of theatre from the challenging tasks of directing and acting to set design and lighting.

“The process is what Acting 4 is all about…reaching to the edges and creating a whole new world. In Acting 4 the limitations are simple, the show belongs to you,” said Maroney. “Being a director has been such an eye opening experience. I love being so involved in the process, yet also getting the opportunity to sit back and watch the show come alive.”

The cast of “Peter Pan” includes Kylie Eaton, Tanner Gordon, Malina Workman, Jason Martin, Kaitlyn Turner, Clayton McDougall, Emily Creighton, Amanda Farnham, Samantha Barker, Kadeesh Griepp, Brittanie Dull, Aly Olson, Jordan Ferguson, Melanie Noble, James Gravlee, Ashanna Smith, Michael Gordon, Julia Salo, Laura Cody-Ferguson, Tessa Weyrauch and Caroline Houser as Peter Pan.
Behind the scenes Tessa Weyrauch, Tim Koenig, Logan Warberg, Danyelle Moore, Hilary Syvertson, Brian Hoffman, Spencer Davis and Colleen Hoag make up the stage, lighting and sound crew.

Tickets for the play cost $7 for adults and $5 for students, children and senior citizens. They are available at Glacier High School’s main office and at Herberger’s. The shows begin at 6:30 p.m. to accommodate families with young children.
