BNSF Locomotives Derail Near Power

By Beacon Staff

POWER – Crews are fixing a section of track near Power northwest of Great Falls after two BNSF Railway locomotives derailed.

The locomotives were at the end of a 125-car train carrying coal from Wyoming to Canada when they derailed just before 3 a.m. Tuesday. BNSF spokesman Gus Melonas says heavy rain created a soft spot on the track that sank three feet.

Crews are cleaning up about 200 gallons of spilled diesel fuel and replacing 900 feet of track.

The line, which averages six trains a day, is expected to be operational by Wednesday afternoon.
