BILLINGS — University of Oregon golfer and Billings native Brandon McIver has earned a spot in this weekend’s U.S. Open golf tournament in Pinehurst, North Carolina.

McIver, who won three Class AA state titles before graduating from West High School in Billings, just finished his sophomore season at Oregon. His best tournament finish was a tie for fifth at the Wyoming Cowboy Desert Intercollegiate.

Another former Billings West standout, Jake Hedge, will caddy for McIver.

The U.S. Open field of 156 golfers will be cut to the lowest 60 scores, plus ties, after 36 holes. The tournament runs Thursday through Sunday.

Jasi Acharya of Columbus has qualified for the U.S. Women’s Open Championship June 19-22 at Pinehurst. She won a sectional qualifier last month at Lake Forest Country Club in St. Louis to earn a spot in her first LPGA event.
