BOZEMAN — A survey of states on business ranks Montana 33rd in the country.

CNBC’s America’s Top States for Business rankings considered 56 measures of competitiveness among the states.

Montana’s highest individual ranking was quality of life, where it placed 11th. The state’s lowest ranking was 46th in the workforce category, which took into account the education level of a state’s workforce and the number of available workers.

Montana ranked 42nd in business friendliness and 45th technology and innovation.

Gov. Steve Bullock’s spokesman Dave Parker tells the Bozeman Daily Chronicle that he believes the rankings are less important than what’s actually going on in Montana.

He noted the state has added 11,000 jobs this year and that the state’s gross domestic product grew by 4.5 percent last year.
