The City of Kalispell is accepting applications for its vacant council seat, which is up for grabs through Friday.

The deadline to apply is July 25 at 5 p.m. Applicants must be city residents who live in Ward 3, which spans most of downtown, west toward Foys Lake Road and the south-east side to Woodland Avenue.

Randy Kenyon retired from the city council earlier this month after 14 years.

The city council is composed of eight councilors and the mayor. The city is divided into four wards with two councilors elected from each ward and the mayor elected at large. Each member serves a four-year term, with the terms staggered.

City councilors receive an annual salary of $5,000, plus a stipend of $900. Councilors are eligible to participate in the Public Employees Retirement System and the city’s health insurance plan.

Whomever fills the vacant Ward 3 term would remain in office through Dec. 31, 2015. The replacement councilor would need to run for election in November 2015 if they wished to retain the position for another four-year term.

Letters of interest must be submitted to the city clerk, 201 First Ave. E., Kalispell, MT 59901 or emailed to [email protected]. Letters of interest must include the applicant’s legal name, home address and telephone number, along with any additional information that the applicant wishes the council to review. For more information call the city clerk at 758-7756.
