The Laurel Dodgers snapped the Glacier Twins’ streak at the Class A American Legion State Baseball Tournament in Lewistown.
The Dodgers defeated the Twins 9-1 Thursday, dropping the Whitefish legion team to the loser-out consolation bracket. Glacier plays the Mission Valley Mariners at 4 p.m. Friday. The Mariners stayed alive in the consolation bracket Thursday, defeating Gallatin Valley 6-3.
The Twins committed six errors against Laurel and fell behind 4-1 after three innings. The Dodgers erupted for five more runs in the fifth while pitcher Anthony Panella stumped Glacier’s batters.
Vincent Smith was 2 for 4 with a double and Kyler Howke added to hits to lead the Twins’ offense.
Mission Valley trailed Gallatin Valley 1-0 until the seventh, when the Mariners scored. The next inning, the Polson squad erupted for five runs en route to victory. Alex Killian had two hits. Trevor Paro knocked in three runs and Derek Peel added two RBI. Brenen Abromeit had one RBI.
Belgrade beat Lewistown 17-2 to advance to the state championship game tonight against Laurel.
