Columbia Falls, Whitefish Girls Snag State Soccer Victories

Wildkats, Bulldogs advance to Class A state soccer semifinals

In Columbia Falls, Lindsay Strouse scored three goals and the Wildkats cruised past Stevensville 5-0 in the first round of the Class A girls state soccer playoffs.

Columbia Falls took 20 shots on goal to overwhelm Stevensville. Hannah Gedlaman and Lottie Ellis each scored a pair of goals to cap the victory.

The Wildkats (8-1-4 overall) advanced to the state semifinals against Billings Central (11-0-2). The Lady Rams have won six consecutive state championships. Columbia Falls will attempt to upset the champs in Billings on Saturday. A game time was not available when the Beacon went to print.

In Hamilton, Whitefish’s Haley Nicholson scored the game-winning goal after returning from an injury and the Bulldogs eliminated the Broncs 2-1 in the first round of the soccer playoffs.

Grace Kurtz notched the Bulldogs’ other goal, scoring in the first period. Nicholson scored in the 36th minute. Whitefish goalkeeper Kess Nelson made 12 saves.

The Bulldogs (6-5-2) will host Laurel (9-2-2) in the semifinals on Saturday. A game time was not available when the Beacon went to print.

Laurel defeated Polson 1-0 in the first round.
