Montana’s Unemployment Rate Down to 4.6 Percent

Flathead County jobless rate fell by 0.3 percentage point to 4.8 percent in September

Flathead County’s non-seasonally adjusted unemployment rate fell by 0.3 percentage point to 4.8 percent in September.

There were 42,941 workers employed in the county last month, roughly 1,800 fewer than in August. But there were 2,168 unemployed residents, roughly 220 fewer than the previous month.

Montana’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate fell by 0.1 percentage point to 4.6 percent in September.

Lincoln County’s jobless rate dropped by 1.2 percentage points to 8.7 percent in September. There were 6,809 workers last month, 210 fewer than the previous month. There were 647 unemployed residents, a decrease of 126 from August.

Lake County’s unemployment rate dropped 0.8 percentage point to 5.3 percent. There were 10,602 workers and 599 unemployed residents last month.

Glacier County’s jobless rate fell 1.5 percentage point to 8.4 percent. There were 5,865 workers and 540 unemployed.

The national unemployment rate fell to 5.9 percent last month.

The Department of Labor says payroll estimates show the state added 1,900 jobs in September, but the increase was 983 jobs when taking agricultural workers and the self-employed into account. Montana’s labor force increased by 694 workers in September while the number of unemployed declined by 289 workers.

Montana’s unemployment rate was 5.3 percent in January. Payroll employment has added 9.700 jobs so far this year.
