CUT BANK — Strong winds in northern Montana led Glacier County officials to scale back the search for a Canadian man and a Japanese woman who went missing after a weekend fishing trip.

The sheriff’s office had patrols working the shoreline of Mission Lake, which is south of U.S. Highway 2 between Browning and Cut Bank. However, with winds gusting up to 65 mph Thursday, it was not safe to launch search boats on the choppy water.

Divers recovered the body of 63-year-old Kazuhiko Hayashizaki (kah-zoo-HEE’-koh hay-YAH’-shee-zah-kee) of Canada on Tuesday.

Hayashizaki along with 56-year-old Danny Heland and 75-year-old Fuki Nishibayashi (FOO’-kee nish-uh-BY’-ashee) are believed to have fallen into the lake on Saturday, Nov. 23.

The sheriff’s department says they will continue searching while also keeping their deputies safe.
