Capital’s Pat Murphy Steps Down as Head Football Coach

Murphy says he is leaving to put more time into teaching

HELENA — Pat Murphy has resigned as head football coach at Capital High in Helena.

Murphy guided the Bruins to four state championships over 11 seasons.

His teams compiled an overall record of 96-36 with state titles in 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2011. He teams were runner-up in 2005 and 2009.

Murphy’s teams established Class AA records of five successive state title game appearances and 33 consecutive victories.

Capital posted a 17-6 postseason record under his leadership.

Murphy says he is leaving to put more time into teaching.

School officials say there is currently no timetable on when they plan to hire a new head coach.
