Whitefish Girls Edge Polson in Divisional Opener

Frenchtown boys roll past Libby to advance to semifinal round on Friday against Columbia Falls

Dani Douglas scored 14 points, Mariah Drown chipped in 11 and the Whitefish girls rallied back to edge Polson 48-44 in the first round of the Northwestern A divisional basketball tournament on Thursday in Whitefish.

Coral Schulz added six points, Anna Peterson scored five and Whitefish erupted for 20 points in the fourth quarter to rally past Polson. Whitefish trailed 38-28 entering the final quarter.

Brenna Clark and Marnee Congdon each scored nine points for Polson (2-17), which drops to loser-out action at 10:30 a.m., Saturday.

The Lady Bulldogs (3-16) advanced to Friday’s semifinal round game against Columbia Falls (17-1) at 6 p.m.

Libby (9-9) and Frenchtown (12-6) square off in the other semifinal round game at 7:30 p.m., Friday.

The winners advance to Saturday’s championship match at 7:30 p.m.

The top two teams from the divisional qualify for the Class A state tournament in Hamilton, March 5-7 in Hamilton.

Boys

Bridger Truett scored 21 points to lead Frenchtown past Libby 57-27 in the opening round of the Northwestern A divisional basketball tournament on Thursday in Whitefish.

Austin Means had seven points, and Jacob Price and Kyle Smith each scored six points apiece for the Broncs, which outscored Libby 28-11 in the second half.

Frenchtown (8-11) advances to the semifinal round and plays Columbia Falls (15-3) at 3 p.m., Friday.

Whitefish (8-10) and Polson (8-10) play in the other semifinal game at 4:30 p.m., Friday.

Libby (2-16) drops to loser-out action at 9 a.m., Saturday.
