BILLINGS — A problem with the company that is administering Montana’s student achievement tests has postponed the start of the Smarter Balanced exams that seek to gauge how well students are meeting the new Common Core educational standards.
Office of Public Instruction chief of staff Madalyn Quinlan says OPI is working with vendor Measured Progress to identify a new start date. She says there are issues with the way questions are loaded into the online system.
About 3,700 students in 37 schools had been scheduled to begin testing Wednesday.
About 76,000 Montana students in grades 3 through 8 along with high school juniors are scheduled to take the exams by late May.
Quinlan says Nevada and North Dakota also have contracts with Measured Progress and are delaying their exams.
