Polson, Frenchtown Win Openers at State Softball Tournament

Lady Pirates to play Lady Broncs in quarterfinal round Friday

The Polson Lady Pirates won back-to-back games on the first day of the Class A softball state tournament in Anaconda on Thursday.

Polson defeated Anaconda 11-1 in the opener and beat Billings Central 8-1 later in the day.

Kaelen Wall and Sarah Rausch both had a pair of RBI and Haley Fyant went the distance from the circle against Billings Central. Rausch had four RBI and Wall added two against Anaconda.Fyant, Jaiden Toth and Taylor Brackey each knocked in one run apiece.

Polson advanced to the quarterfinal round and will play fellow Northwestern A rival Frenchtown at 1 p.m., Friday.

Frenchtown blanked Butte Central 10-0 on Thursday. Ace Morgan Ray allowed one hit over five innings. Ray, who has committed to play at Ohio State University, had two homeruns and four RBI in the game.

Belgrade edged Libby 3-2 in the other opener.

Libby plays Livingston in the consolation bracket at 11 a.m., Friday.

Belgrade plays Hamilton in other quarterfinal action on Friday.
