Avery Leads Montana State Junior Golf Championship

Montana State Junior Golf Championship golf tournament concludes in Polson on Wednesday

Kalispell’s Teigan Avery shot a 3-over 75 to take the lead after the first day of the Montana State Junior Championship golf tournament at Polson Bay Golf Course on Tuesday.

Avery, the two-time Class AA state champion who will be a senior at Glacier next fall, will try to claim her third consecutive junior title during the second and final round on Wednesday. Action resumed at 7:30 a.m.

Whitefish’s Coral Schulz, the reigning Class A state champion who will be a senior in the fall, shot a 7-over 79 on Tuesday and sits in second place behind Avery in the girls 16-17 age division. Three other girls are also tied for second.

In the boys tournament, Libby’s Ryggs Johnston shot a 4-under 68 on Tuesday and sits in second place in the 14-15 division. Joey Moore of Billings leads by one stroke after shooting 67.

Libby’s Jonny Cielak is in third in the 16-17 division after carding 71 on Tuesday. Danny Friez from Forsyth leads after shooting 65 and Caleb Stetzner of Anaconda is in second, 67.
