Marlow Schulz, a freshman at St. John’s University from Whitefish, placed fourth in the 800 meter final at the 2015 USA Track and Field Junior Outdoor Championships in Eugene, Oregon, on Saturday.

Schulz clocked 2:10.33, only two seconds out of both second and third place. In the prelimins, Schulz ran 2:09.45, a personal best and the fourth fastest time in program history.

“Marlow ran a great race and capped an outstanding freshman year,” said St. John’s head coach Jim Hurt in a school release. “Running in the junior national championships at Hayward Field is a great experience and she should be back here numerous times in the years ahead.”

Schulz was a key contributor of the school’s mile relay team, which claimed All-East honors after a silver-medal finish at the 2015 ECAC Outdoor Championships in May.

Polson native Melinda Owen Withrow tied for seventh in the pole vault at the USA Track and Field Championships in Eugene, finishing shy of qualifying for the World Championships in Beijing. Withrow, competing with the Mountain West Track Club, cleared 14-5.25. Jennifer Suhr, the reigning Olympic champ, won the event with 15-9.75.
