CRANDALL, Wyo. – A 13-year-old boy from Montana has drowned after recreating on the Clark’s Fork of the Yellowstone River near Crandall.
The Cody Enterprise reports Jonah Anspach of Jefferson City, Mont. was floating on the river with family and friends when he overturned and disappeared Saturday.
The Park County Sheriff’s Department says Jonah and his brother had gone to a section of the river known as “Day Stretch.” They were in small, inflatable pool rings and were not wearing life jackets.
At some point, the boys overturned. Jonah’s brother was able to make it to shore, but Jonah never resurfaced.
The initial search for Jonah started at 8 p.m. Saturday and was suspended due to the darkness. Crews returned to the area Sunday morning, and Jonah’s body was recovered around noon.
