Six Attorneys Apply for District Court Judge

The commission is accepting public comment on the applications through Sept. 12

Six local attorneys applied for the Flathead County District Court judge position being vacated by Ted O. Lympus at the end of the month.

The state’s Judicial Nomination Commission received applications from James Henry Cossitt, Richard Patrick DeJana, Amy Poehling Eddy, Kay Lynn Lee, John R. Quatman and Daniel Richard Wilson.

The commission is accepting public comment on the applications through Sept. 12. Comments can be sent to Judicial Nomination Commission, c/o Lois Menzies, Office of Court Administrator, P.O. Box 203005, Helena, MT  59620-3005, or by emailing [email protected].

Lympus, one of four district court judges in Flathead County, is retiring after 23 years on the bench.

The commission will forward the names of three to five nominees to the governor for appointment after reviewing the applications and public comment and interviewing the applicants, if necessary. The person appointed by the governor is subject to election at the primary and general elections in 2016. The candidate elected in 2016 will serve for the remainder of Lympus’s term, which expires January 2019.

Judicial Nomination Commission members are District Judge Richard Simonton of Glendive; Mona Charles of Kalispell; Elizabeth Halverson of Billings; Hal Harper of Helena; Lane Larson of Billings; Ryan Rusche of Columbia Falls; and Nancy Zadick of Great Falls.
