NEW YORK — Arizona Diamondbacks farmhand Kal Simmons has been suspended 50 games without pay after a positive test under baseball’s minor league drug program.

The commissioner’s office said Thursday that Simmons, a shortstop for the Missoula Osprey of the Pioneer League, tested positive for the stimulant Amphetamine.

Selected in the eighth round this year, the 21-year-old Simmons hit .222 with two homers and 18 RBIs in 50 games for Missoula. He played at Kennesaw State.

The suspension will be effective at the start of the 2016 Pioneer League season.
