Former Montana State linebacker Alex Singleton was a first-round pick of the Calgary Stampeders in the Canadian Football League draft.

Singleton was a three-year starter for the Bobcats, where he finished his career in 2014. He signed as an undrafted free agent with the Seattle Seahawks in May 2015 and was released in September. He also spent time on the New England Patriots and Minnesota Vikings practice squads during the 2015 season.

The Stamps are coached by former Montana Grizzlies quarterback Dave Dickenson. In an interview with the team shortly after Thursday’s draft, he was asked about the rivalry. Singleton suggested that Dickenson might take some ribbing because his first overall pick as a head coach was a Bobcat.

Singleton recently gained dual U.S. and Canadian citizenship. The California native was eligible because his mother was born in Toronto.
