Let the title defense begin.
Ali Williams struck out 23 batters in 13 innings as the Glacier softball team swept Missoula Hellgate on May 19 in a best-of-three playoffs series in Kalispell, advancing to this week’s state tournament.
The Wolfpack won 9-1 in the first game and 11-1 in the second at Kidsports Complex.
The Wolfpack advanced to the Class AA state tournament, which will be held at Conrad Complex in Kalispell, May 26-28.
Helena Capital eliminated Flathead in two games last week, defeating the Bravettes 14-6 and 18-4.
Glacier (18-5 overall, 10-2 in Western AA) will open the state tournament Thursday at 2 p.m. against Billings West (13-10, 7-5).
In other opening-round action, Great Falls CMR (19-2, 11-1) takes on Helena (12-11, 6-6) at 2 p.m., Missoula Big Sky (19-2, 11-1) plays Billings Senior (12-11, 5-7) at 4 p.m., and Great Falls (16-7, 8-4) plays Helena Capital (13-9, 8-4) at 4 p.m.
Glacier defeated Big Sky in last year’s title game to win its first championship.
