Board of Adjustment Considers Whitefish Casino, Bed and Breakfast

Casino would be located on Hodgson Road and Bed and Breakfast would be located on Big Mountain Road

The Flathead County Board of Adjustment will consider two business projects at its Aug. 2 meeting, with discussions about a new casino and a new bed and breakfast near Whitefish.

The projects are separate, but both deal with the Whitefish area. Den Gar Properties, LLC, is seeking a conditional use permit to build a 4,500-square-foot tavern and casino on property within the Blanchard Lake Zoning District.

It’s located at 1985 Hodgson Rd. near Whitefish and contains about 3.8 acres.

There’s also a request from Steven and Julie Kruger for a conditional use permit to establish a bed and breakfast on property within the Rural Whitefish Zoning District, and is zoned R-1 residential.

The property is located at 2620 Big Mountain Rd., and includes just a little over two acres.

The Board of Adjustment will also consider a request from the Flathead County Road and Bridge Department to construct a 40-foot-by-60-foot metal-sided shop with ridge pole height of about 24 feet. The shop would be on a parcel of land located at 203 West Valley Dr. which contains about 40 acres.

The building would be used for storage of equipment and associated tools and materials, and thus might contradict the zoning regulations of the area, which is zoned R-1 residential.

According to state law, the Board of Adjustment can’t deny the proposed use of the building, but it can host a public forum for comment on the proposed use.

The Board of Adjustment meeting will take place on Aug. 2 at 6 p.m. in the Second Floor Conference Room of the Earl Bennett Building, located at 1035 First Ave. W in Kalispel
