The Lake County Sheriff’s Office has identified the St. Regis man who drowned in Flathead Lake this week as 51-year-old Ty Kanara.

Kanara was reportedly paddle boarding with his family on July 26 when he fell into the water at around 6 p.m.

Kanara did not come back to the surface and his family began to scream. A nearby boater came to the family’s aid and dove into the lake to bring Kanara back up. The boater then took Kanara to shore and started CPR but was unable to revive him.

Kanara was not wearing a life jacket at the time of the incident.

The man’s body has been taken to the Montana State Crime Lab for an autopsy.
