KPD Warns Residents About Mail Theft

Police say they have investigated a number of mail-related thefts in recent months

The Kalispell Police Department is warning local residents to be on the look out for people stealing money and parcels from mailboxes.

Law enforcement officials say they have investigated a number of mail-related thefts in recent months. The perpetrators frequently steal checks that they can “wash” and then write-out to another party to cash.

KPD and the U.S. Postal Service recommend local residents do not leave mail out overnight and to always bring outgoing mail to a local post office or mail carrier. Officials also recommend using a locking mailbox or renting a Post Office box, both of which are more secure than a normal box.

The Postal Service recommends talking to neighbors about keeping an eye on each other’s property and if you know you will be getting a valuable package to make sure someone will be home to receive it.

The KPD asks anyone who has witnessed or been the victim of a mail theft in the Kalispell area to call (406) 758-7780.
