Football Roundup: Glacier Wins Wild Shootout with Sentinel

Columbia Falls rallies past Dillon; Bigfork trounces Malta

Glacier 63, Missoula Sentinel 62 (OT)

In an exciting back-and-forth offensive shootout in the University of Montana’s Washington-Grizzly Stadium, the Wolfpack emerged victorious in overtime over the Spartans, improving to 6-0.

Quarterback Tadan Gilman accounted for five touchdowns, including a 14-yard pass to Scout Willcut in overtime that led to the winning extra point by Cameron Anderson. Missoula Sentinel missed its extra point after scoring first in overtime.

Gilman completed 17 of 25 passes for 240 yards and three touchdowns along with 82 yards rushing and another pair of scores. Willcut had three catches for 74 yards and two TDs. Drew Turner rushed 28 times for 237 yards and two scores, including an 80-yard run later in the third quarter to put Glacier up 49-42.

The two teams erupted for 42 points in the first quarter. Glacier’s  Jackson Pepe had three touchdowns in that quarter, including a 35-yard interception return and an 85-yard kickoff return. He also had four catches for 82 yards and a TD. Patrick O’Connell had five catches for 54 yards and Andrew Durato had two catches for 15 yards.

Glacier hosts Great Falls C.M. Russell (2-4) on Friday night at 7 p.m.

Columbia Falls 28, Dillon 21

In a battle between two of the top Class A teams in Montana, the Wildcats came out ahead, edging last year’s state runners-up in Columbia Falls.

Quarterback Dakota Bridwell passed for two touchdowns and rushed for the deciding TD in the third quarterback to help Columbia Falls improve to 5-0 overall and deal Dillon (4-1) its first loss of the season.

Dillon jumped ahead 14-0 in the first quarter before Bridwell connected with Sean Miller on a 16-yard TD in the second to cut the lead to 14-7. After the Beavers scored midway through the second to make it 21-7, the Wildcats came alive and scored 21 straight points to clinch the victory. Braxton Reiten took a kickoff return 89 yards for a score and Trevor Hoerner caught a 24-yard TD pass from Bridwell.

Bridwell hiked his season total for TD passes to 25 in five games.

Columbia Falls travels to Whitefish (2-4) for a Northwestern A cross-valley rivalry game on Friday night at 7 p.m.

Bigfork 49, Malta 21

Matt Farrier accounted for five touchdowns as the Vikes picked up an impressive victory at home over the Mustangs and improved to 6-0.

Farrier rushed for four scores and passed for another, a 31-yard TD strike to Anders Epperly. Randy Stultz added a pair of scoring runs to lead Bigfork to a big win over Malta (2-3).

Bigfork hosts Libby (1-5) on Friday night in the final home game of the regular season.

Polson 38, Whitefish 0

Colton Cote and Tanner Wilson each scored two touchdowns to lead the Pirates to a Northwestern A conference win at home over the Bulldogs.

Colton Cote rushed 19 times for 132 yards and scored on runs of 1 yard and 8 yards. Wilson completed 7 of 8 passes for 108 yards and rushed into the end zone from 3 and 6 yards out. Koby Garcia added a 9-yard TD run. Polson rushed 50 times for 296 yards. The Pirates defense limited Whitefish to only 66 yards of total offense.

Polson (4-1) travels to Butte Central (4-2) on Friday night. Whitefish (2-4) hosts Columbia Falls (5-0) on Friday night. Kickoff is at 7 p.m.

The Braves were off last week due to a forfeit by Missoula Hellgate. Flathead (2-4) travels to Butte (2-4) on Friday night.
