GREAT FALLS — Residents in northeastern Montana are being warned of high water as heavy rains have caused the Milk River and its tributaries to spill out of their banks.
The Great Falls Tribune reports the National Weather Service says the flooding was caused by 3 to 9 inches of rainfall followed by snow.
Meteorologist Patrick Gilchrist says Glasgow residents were advised Thursday to decide whether to stay in their homes or seek shelter elsewhere. They were also warned to move livestock.
Roads were closed in Phillips and Valley counties and residents in Tampico, Hinsdale and Nashua were warned to be on alert.
There were no reports of structures being affected.
The Weather Service says it’s been 30 years since flooding of this magnitude has occurred in the area during the fall.
