Columbia Falls Advances to State Soccer Semifinals

The Wildcats (11-1-1) will host Belgrade (11-2) at noon on Saturday

Jon Sigurdsson scored a pair of unassisted goals and Skylar Chute added a third for good measure as Columbia Falls blanked Laurel 3-0 to win an opening-round match in the Class A boys state soccer playoffs.

The Wildcats (11-1-1) will host Belgrade (11-2) at noon on Saturday, Oct. 22 in a semifinal match.

Goalkeeper Brandon Karberg made six saves to secure the shutout for the Northern A champs.

In other playoff action, Billings Central defeated Whitefish, 7-0, and Corvallis defeated Polson, 3-0. Belgrade defeated Missoula Loyola 9-1.

The winner of the Columbia Falls-Belgrade match will travel to the winner of Corvallis-Billings Central to play for the Class A state championship.

In the girls Class A state soccer playoffs, Polson edged Hamilton, 4-2. Ashlee Howell scored two goals and Tiara Duford and Hannah Kasmitz both added solo scores to lead the Lady Pirates. Polson will host Billings Central this week in a semifinal match. The game time has not been determined.

Billings Central eliminated Columbia Falls 7-1. Belgrade defeated Whitefish in overtime, 3-2. Laurel cruised past Missoula Loyola 9-0.
