Libby Man Killed in Accidental Shooting

56-year-old man was moving guns when one accidentally fired

A 56-year-old Libby man died on Nov. 12 after accidentally shooting himself in the leg.

The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office identified the victim as James Metts.

According to law enforcement, Metts was moving several firearms out of his home shortly before 10 p.m. on Nov. 12 when a revolver he was holding discharged into his leg. The bullet severed an artery in Metts’ leg. Medical personnel were on the scene within minutes of the shooting and Metts was taken to Cabinet Peaks Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.
