Nicole Bouma, a senior at Flathead High School, has verbally committed to run at the University of Colorado-Pueblo next year.

Bouma has been a standout distance runner at Flathead in recent years and will join other former local runners for the nationally ranked CSU-Pueblo.

Last week, the CSU-Pueblo men’s cross country team recorded the program’s third top-10 finish at the Division II national championships in Florida, while the women’s squad competed in its first appearance at the national championship event. The women finished 16th.

Junior Derrick Williams, a former state champ from Columbia Falls, had to drop out of the men’s race due to an injury. Freshman Gillian Maness of Kalispell finished 119th (22:31.4) and senior Bailey Hughes of Bigfork was 149th (22:51.8).
