A 26-year-old Libby man is facing multiple felony charges after allegedly causing a head-on crash that killed a Lincoln County woman.

Richard Davidson has been charged with negligent homicide, vehicular homicide while under the influence, and possession of dangerous drugs following a crash on March 14 on Montana Highway 56 west of Libby.

Lincoln County Sheriff Roby Bowe, said a woman in the other vehicle, Laura Cooper, 45, was killed in the crash. Three other people in the vehicle, an adult male and two boys, were also injured. Davidson was alone and suffered minor injuries, Bowe said.

Bowe said the collision happened at approximately 7:30 a.m. In the process of searching the scene, Bowe said officers found drugs in Davidson’s vehicle. Bowe said the results of a drug test would confirm whether Davidson was under the influence at the time of the crash but witness statements suggest that he was in the moments leading up to the crash.
