County to Hold Public Hearing on Affordable Housing in Bigfork

Commissioners invite comment on proposed project and its need in the community

By Beacon Staff

The Flathead County Commission has scheduled a March 29 hearing to discuss an application that proposes to add more low-income rental housing to Bigfork.

The plan, proposed by GMD Development and Homeword, Inc., is for the Little Jon Apartments, which are located at 1154 Grand Dr. The applicant proposes to acquire four buildings with a total of 31 multi-family units and rehabilitate the buildings for low-income housing. The application also includes rehabilitating an existing two bedroom or office space and turning it into a classroom for the ACES After School Program.

Current zoning for this property is R-1 Low-Density Residential, and the apartments are already an approved, grandfathered non-conforming use.

The commission’s hearing will include opportunity for public comment on this project, specifically if the low-income rental housing meets a community housing need.

The hearing will be held March 29 at 10 a.m. at the Commissioners’ Chambers in Kalispell. For more information, call 406-758-5501.
