MISSOULA — The Montana Board of Pardons and Parole has denied parole for a Seeley Lake woman who admitted for the first time last week that she killed her husband 25 years ago.

Becky Lynn Richards is serving a life sentence for the March 1992 death of Jim Richards.

Parole board executive director Kristy Cobban told KECI-TV that Richards was denied parole Friday because board members questioned her remorse. Previous parole denials noted that she did not take responsibility for her husband’s death.

Prosecutors said Becky Richards shot her husband in the head after he discovered she had been stealing money from his logging business. Richards also was convicted of several counts of forgery and theft and was ordered to pay nearly $69,000 in restitution.

She is eligible for another parole hearing in three years.
