GREAT FALLS — A Canadian trucker is charged with negligent homicide for a crash on Interstate 15 in Montana that killed a fellow Canadian.

The Great Falls Tribune reports Jason Kleberc of Bell Island, Newfoundland made an initial court appearance on Wednesday. District Judge John Parker set his bail at $100,000.

Kleberc also faces charges of tampering with evidence and failure to remain at the scene of the April 15 crash that killed 72-year-old Marvin Knutson of Swift Current, Saskatchewan. Kleberc did not enter a plea.

Prosecutors allege Kleberc drove a truck carrying lumber through an emergency vehicle only access and into the path of Knutson’s van.

Court records say the driver of the truck stopped to check on his load of lumber and continued driving. He was arrested days later near Houston.
