Two Libby city councilors have resigned in just two months citing personal commitments that would prevent them from attending meetings.

On April 27, Allen Olsen stepped back after five years on the council. Olsen told the Beacon he decided to resign because he is a busy single father with a growing landscaping business. He added that the city council is in good hands after years of “corruption.”

Olsen was long a thorn in former Mayor Doug Roll’s side and the two men frequently butted heads, leading to multiple lawsuits and recall efforts over the years. Roll eventually stepped down as mayor in 2016.

“If I see corruption crop up again in this city maybe I’ll run for office again, but I don’t think that will happen,” Olsen said.

The rest of the council will select a replacement for Olsen at a future meeting.

Olsen’s announcement came just days after the council had selected Gary Armstrong to replace Janelle Campbell who left in March after just six months on the council.

Five people have resigned from the Libby City Council in the last year, including Olsen, Campbell, Roll, Barb Desch and Dejon Raines.
