St. Ignatius Man Charged With Homicide Following Hit and Run

73-year-old St. Ignatius man was biking when a vehicle hit him

One man is dead and another has been arrested following an alleged hit and run near St. Ignatius over the weekend.

Lake County Sheriff Don Bell said 73-year-old Nick J. Herak was biking near the intersection of Chalwain Road and St. Mary’s Lake Road on May 21 when he was struck by a vehicle. The driver of the vehicle left the scene and Herak later died.

Douglas Calvin Charlo, 47, of St. Ignatius was arrested later and has been charged with negligent vehicular homicide and leaving the scene of a fatal accident, both felonies.
