The National Weather Service’s Missoula office is predicting strong thunderstorms over the weekend of June 3-4 for Central Idaho and Western Montana, including the Flathead Valley.

According to NWS, the Northern Rockies will be effected by thunderstorms over the weekend, with the potential to become severe storms by Sunday. Strong winds and small-stream flooding are potential impacts.

Saturday’s storms would like stay isolated, the NWS said, but Sunday may include a string of storms bringing hail, potential flooding, and winds up to 60 mph.

The NWS said it was unlikely that a single storm would move slowly enough to overwhelm any basins in Western Montana, but if several storms track over the same basin, there would likely be small-stream flooding.

Kalispell’s forecast for the weekend indicates sun on Saturday, with the storms not making their way into the valley until the evening or into Sunday.
