Billings’ Moore Edges Libby’s Johnston at Fourth of July Tournament

Whitefish’s Conor Rooney finished fourth in the men’s championship flight

Joey Moore, a state champion high school golfer at Billings West, edged Libby’s Ryggs Johnston in a playoff at the 81st annual Fourth of July Tournament at Whitefish Lake Golf Club.

Moore carded 66-70-66 — 202 and Johnston carded 67-66-69 — 202 at the tournament. Moore, who set a Class AA state record last year by shooting a two-round 134, bested his Class B state champion counterpart in the first hole of a sudden-death playoff.

Whitefish’s Conor Rooney finished fourth in the men’s championship flight, 69-70-75—214.

Caroll Lilly of Whitefish won the senior men’s championship flight, 81-70-70—221. Hailey Hoagland of Butte won the ladies’ championship flight, 71-72-70—213. Whitefish’s Coral Schulz placed fifth, 73-75-78—226.
