THREE FORKS — An 18-year-old California man faces several misdemeanor charges after a crash on Interstate 90 in southwestern Montana caused the death of his 5-month-old daughter.

The Bozeman Daily Chronicle reports Florin Dumitru of Garden Grove, California, was charged with careless driving involving a death and driving without a license or insurance. He has posted a $1,600 bond and must appear in Gallatin County Justice Court before July 17.

The Montana Highway Patrol says the minivan Dumitru was driving drifted off the road near Logan on Friday afternoon. Dumitru overcorrected and the minivan overturned, landing on its top in the median.

The baby was not in a car seat and was ejected as was her 19-year-old mother, who was injured. The baby died at the hospital in Bozeman. Dumitru was wearing a seat belt and was not injured.
