HAVRE — Montana State University-Northern football coach Aaron Christensen has resigned with three games left in the 2017 season.

The Havre Daily News reports Christensen issued a statement Wednesday thanking the school for the privilege and opportunity of coaching the Lights.

Christensen’s teams have a 2-27 record in his nearly three seasons at the NAIA school in Havre, Montana, and have won just one Frontier Conference game. Northern fell 93-19 at Montana Tech last weekend.

Christensen came to MSU-Northern from Missouri Valley College, where he was a successful offensive coordinator for the Vikings.

Longtime Northern defensive coordinator Jake Eldridge will serve as interim head coach for the rest of the season.

Chancellor Greg Kegel says Northern will begin its search for a new football coach immediately.
