Players complained that their coach was texting them excessively and at inappropriate times

MISSOULA — University of Montana Athletic Director Kent Haslam says the school’s women’s soccer coach who resigned earlier this week had been asked to step down after an investigation found he used a university-issued cell phone to text escort services in Las Vegas.

The Missoulian reported Thursday that Haslam looked through former coach Mark Plakorus’ phone records after players complained that their coach was texting them excessively and at inappropriate times, among other things.

Haslam says Plakorus sent the texts in Las Vegas while on recruiting trips in June and November 2017, January and March 2016 and February 2015.

Plakorus did not respond to requests for comment Thursday evening.

On Wednesday, the day after he resigned, Plakorus told a Missoulian reporter that he stepped down to take care of his father.
