Wrong-way Driver Pleads Guilty to Vehicular Homicide

MISSOULA — A Montana man who authorities say caused the death of a person while driving in the wrong direction and under the influence has pleaded guilty.

The Missoulian reports 24-year-old Eduardo Lopez pleaded guilty Tuesday to vehicular homicide while under the influence and 15 counts of felony criminal endangerment.

According to court documents, Lopez drove into oncoming traffic on Interstate 90 outside Missoula in October. His vehicle struck another car, causing the death of 54-year-old Shawna Wootan.

Lopez told the court Tuesday that he went out drinking the night before the crash and was drunk when he got behind the wheel. He says he blacked out and only remembers waking up in the hospital.

Lopez is scheduled to be sentenced next month.
