Whitefish Hires New Boys Basketball Coach

Scott Smith takes over for Sean Duff, who stepped down following 2017-18 season

By Andy Viano

Scott Smith is the new Whitefish High School boys basketball coach, filling the position vacated by Sean Duff in April.

Smith is a physical education teacher at the high school and has served as an assistant coach with the Bulldogs football, basketball, and track and field programs in recent years.

Duff spent two years as Whitefish’s head coach, leading the Bulldogs to a 9-31 combined record the last two seasons. The 2017-18 Bulldogs won just two games, but Smith inherits a young team that returns most of its core, including all-conference wing Lee Walburn.

Whitefish has replaced both of its varsity basketball coaches this offseason, with Bob Bolam taking over the girls program from Ben Johnson, who spent three years with the Bulldogs before stepping down in March.
