Kalispell Youngster Wins Western Montana Open

Rory Smith, 14, wins tournament championship in tiebreaker

Rory Smith, a 14-year-old rising sophomore at Glacier High School, won the 18-and-under boys singles championship at the Western Montana Open at Missoula’s Playfair Park on July 6.

Smith toppled Missoula Sentinel’s Cody Curtis in the tournament final despite dropping the first set, prevailing 4-6, 6-0, 10-4. He swept Austin Moseley 6-2, 6-4 in the semifinals.

During the Montana High School Association season, Smith won the Western AA Divisional title as a freshman for the Wolfpack and wound up finishing fifth in the state in Class AA.
