7-Year-Old Released from Hospital After Shooting

By Beacon Staff

POLSON – A Lake County sheriff’s detective says a 7-year-old girl was released Tuesday from a hospital in Spokane, Wash., after being accidentally shot by her younger sister on Friday.

Detective Mike Gehl (gale) says the girl is expected to make a full recovery.

The shooting occurred just before 2:30 on Friday afternoon.

Her grandfather took the girl to the emergency room at St. Luke’s Hospital in Ronan. She was suffering from a gunshot wound to the abdomen and was later flown to Spokane for further treatment.

Gehl says three sisters were visiting their grandfather for the holiday weekend. A 3-year-old sister found a loaded rifle in the grandfather’s shop and accidentally shot the 7-year-old when the older girl tried to take it away from her. An 8-year-old sister was also present.

Authorities have not released the names of those involved.
