Libby Teen Acquitted in Campground Shooting Death

By Beacon Staff

LIBBY – A Lincoln County jury Wednesday found a Libby man not guilty in a shooting death at a Libby campground.

The jury deliberated for an hour and a half before finding 18-year-old Stephen Thomas not guilty of deliberate homicide and attempted deliberate homicide.

Thomas was convicted on one of six charges: The jury found him guilty of tampering with or fabricating physical evidence.

Thomas and his girlfriend were arrested last July after 67-year-old Larry Kingsley was shot and killed at a camp site in the Kootenai National Forest.

Prosecutors had claimed Thomas shot Kingsley several times.

His girlfriend, 19-year-old Heather Henson of Kalispell, was convicted last December of attempted mitigated deliberate homicide. She was sentenced to five years in prison.
