Rehberg Tops Democratic Challengers in Campaign Fundraising

HELENA – U.S. Rep. Denny Rehberg, R-Mont., has far outpaced his Democratic challengers in second-quarter fundraising, according to campaign finance reports filed with the Federal Elections Commission on Wednesday.

The incumbent congressman, who hopes to be re-elected to his fifth term next year, reported that he has $697,403 of cash-on-hand in the second quarter. He raised $210,286 from April 1 through June 30 of this year.

“This is the most money Denny has ever raised in a quarter during a non-election year,” said Tyler Matthews, Rehberg’s campaign manager. “Fundraising is going very well and we expect that to continue right up to Election Day 2010.”

Missoula attorney Tyler Gernant, a Democrat, outraised his primary opponent, Montana Democratic Party Chairman Dennis McDonald, by more than $10,000. Gernant brought in $35,926 and McDonald received $24,595 in campaign contributions. Gernant raised some of the money reported Wednesday during the first quarter of the year but was not required to report it because it was less than $5,000.
