Don’t Bet on Montana Governor Gambling Away a Surplus

BILOXI, Miss. – It’s a safe bet this would never happen.

Montana Gov. Brian Schweitzer said Saturday at the National Governors Association convention that his state has $430 million in the bank — a rare surplus at a time many states are struggling to cut budgets.

The Democrat joked that after seeing the casinos along the Mississippi Gulf Coast, he thought about betting the entire pile of cash on roulette.

“We could take that $430 million and put it on one spin on red,” Schweitzer said, laughing. “I’d be a hero and go home doubled down — or I’d just have to stay here and get a job.”
