Memorial Planned for Butte Plane Crash Victims

By Beacon Staff

BUTTE – A memorial is planned near the site where a plane crashed in Butte in March, killing all 14 people on board.

A relative of one of the victims says a dark, granite memorial will be unveiled during a ceremony planned Aug. 25 at Holy Cross Cemetery. Adrian Cotton says the families of the victims are inviting the public to mourn with them during the event.

The plane was carrying three California families en route to a weeklong ski holiday in Big Sky. The plane was originally destined for Bozeman, but diverted to Butte before it nose-dived into the cemetery next to the city’s airport on March 22.

Cotton says the victim’s families are forever tied to Butte, and that they thank the community for its support and spontaneous acts of empathy.
