Judge Lowers Bail for Man Accused of Scalding Boy

A district judge has lowered the bail from $120,000 to $50,000 for a man charged with forcing a 5-year-old into a bathtub full of scalding water.

Flathead County District Judge Stewart E. Stadler lowered the bail amount at the order of the Montana Supreme Court, which found Stadler should take Juan Miguel Vasquez’ financial situation into account when setting bail amounts.

The 28-year-old Vasquez is accused of forcing his girlfriend’s young son into the scalding water in 2008. The child was treated for three months at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle for second- and third-degree burns on more than 40 percent of his body.
