The commissioner of political practices says he will accept and review a complaint the Montana Republican Party filed against Attorney General Steve Bullock.
The GOP says that Bullock, as a candidate last year, wrongly allowed Democratic Party staffers to work on his campaign without reporting the assistance. Party Chairman Will Deschamps says the assistance, has it been reported, would have exceeded allowable contributions.
Bullock’s attorney counters that precedent shows that personal services provided without compensation are not considered campaign contributions by law.
Bullock is asking the political practices commissioner to dismiss the complaint.
