MISSOULA – Two Washington men face felony drug charges after Missoula County sheriff’s deputies say they stopped a truck on Interstate 90 over the weekend and found 20 pounds of marijuana packaged for sale.
Daniel E. Mesikepp, 29, and Abel Gonzalez-Fernandez, 22, were charged Tuesday in Justice Court with criminal possession of dangerous drugs with the intent to distribute.
Court records say the deputies grew suspicious during Sunday’s routine traffic stop when the men gave different stories about why they were traveling in Missoula. The records also state that the men appeared nervous, so the deputies called a police officer with a drug-sniffing dog.
Authorities say they found 20 one-pound bags of marijuana, as well as ledgers and other papers consistent with drug distribution. Mesikepp and Gonzalez-Fernandez remain jailed each on $100,000 bail.
